Cambodian Women's Development Agency
Established in 1993 Cambodian Women's Development Agecy (CWDA) is a small, grassroots non-governmental organisation with no religious or political affiliations but we have a strong feminist agenda.
CWDA exists to empower women through personal development, skills training, access to resources, advocacy and collective action.
Currently CWDA has three main programs:
(1) Womens's Health and HIV/ AIDS - working with entertainment and sex workers primarily through the Cambodian Prostitutes Union to empower them to take control of their lives through peer-education and outreach support.
(2) Community Self-Prevention Against Trafficking of Women and Children - awareness raising and training about trafficking in local communities, poverty alleviation, education to women in maternal health and literacy and a safe shelter for women and girls who have been trafficked or are at high risk of this happening.
(3) Vocational Training - training disadvantaged young people in computer skills, office administration, accounting and skills in career and job searches.
We can provide a book to be placed in a Community Information Centre on legal rights, e.g. housing and domestic violence so that women can become aware of their rights and how to access them, thereby becoming empowered.
