Here is an example of just how much $5USD can help. Huge difference. No cost.

Medicine for opportunistic infections.

Nyumbani Home is a residential outreach in compassion to children who have inherited HIV and have been abandoned either by being left on the side of the street, left behind in hospital, rejected by extended family after their parents pass away. Currently, we have 117 children under our care receiving family-like parenting: physical, medical, psychosocial, spiritual. Our second program, Lea Toto is a community-based outreach to children living with HIV who stay with some family member in the informal communities surrounding the city of Nairobi. We provide the same wholistic care for these children as we do in Nyumbani Home together with income-generating support of the family in which they live. Currently, we operate in 8 Centres and care for 3,052 children Our third program is Nyumbani Village, Kitui County which invites the two 'left behind' generations of the HIV pandemic, aged, destitute grandparents and family groups of children to come and reside in Nyumbani Village in families headed by a grandparent who cares for approx. 10 children, not only biological grandchildren but also children from child-headed households The families are provided with household needs, education for the children, support for the grandparents. We have a large organic farm which provides food for the families, a self-sustaining forest project, scheduled to become operational in 2018 and we are planning to start eco-tourism in the near future. Currently we care for almost 1,000 children and 100 grandparents living in 100 families. Most of the children are affected by the HIV pandemic with approx 7% infected. Nyumbani Village is a unique project. It is the only one of its kind in the world and so is attractive for visitors. We are currently building an eco-tourism accommodation facility which will have 18 ensuite rooms, dining room and lounge facilities. Attractions will include environment care and protection, permaculture farming, reforestation, rainwater harvesting, a solar garden, use of solar-powered shallow wells for drip-line irrigation.

Over 3,200 of our children are HIV+ Because of this, they are subject to opportunistic infections - respiratory infections, pneumonia, TB, skin infections. The demand for medicines to keep our children healthy is huge. Because we access generic medicines, $5 is a significant contribution.

Weekends are best because the children are at home. It takes approx 45 minutes to reach Nyumbani Home from the centre of Nairobi. Contact phone: 0722887481.
