Cycling to School
Saigon Children's Charity supports disadvantaged children and their families to help get the children into school, to keep them there and to help them learn to the best of their abilities. One factor that causes many children to drop out from school or never make it at all is that they love too far from school to walk and, with little or no rural infrastructure, for many of our children this can mean a walk of one or two hours each way. Try and imagine doing that walk every day, in the baking heat or the torrential rain and across fields and rivers and you are only 10 years old? You can mow see how easy it is to drop out from school.
The answer, however, is simple, SCC provides them with a strong bicycle. This instantly makes the trip to school much easier and more fun too. Each bicycle costs $90 (including delivery etc as the places are often quite remote) and we give these to any child living more than 5kms from their school. It is a simple answer to the problem and it really works too. If you enjoyed your time in Vietnam then this is an ideal way to leave a mark that will help a child access education, have some fun and one that will last them for years too.
Every bicycle we buy and deliver costs $90. They are good quality and built to last which is important in rural Vietnam where the roads and tracks can be very difficult. We will collect 18 lots of $5 and buy a bicycle for a child living more than 5kms from school and change their lives instantly!
