Cambodian Child and Hope Association
Cambodian Child And Hope Association (CCAHA. NGO Reg. No.PCD-0283) is a locally run, 8 school, 700 child educational organisation based among a number of orphans and poor rural villages largely within the Angkor Heritage Park 15km northeast of Siem Reap, Cambodia. Their headmaster is Chheang Phalla, a local Cambodian and a trained teacher who found responsible for this organization. CCAHA provides free Khmer and English language evening classes, 5 days per week, mainly to children from very poor families and orphans with no chance of paying for education. All CCAHA’s funding is dependent on foreign sponsorship and the sporadic nature of this affects the ability to keep all schools consistently open. Currently 4 schools require funding to reopen and another will close in July this year without sponsorship.
The prime aim of CCAHA is, through education, to lift children’s intellectual and technical skills leading to greater life opportunities for themselves, their families and their communities.

CCAHA is run by Cambodian Chheang Phalla, a trained teacher from a background of extreme poverty which lead to his being brought up by the monk Preah Dak and becoming an ordained monk himself. He has established and operates up to 8 schools in a cluster of villages, working with children, including orphans, most of whom are from the poorest families who have no ability to fund education. When all 8 schools are open, 700 students from 5 to 15 years old are enrolled to learn English and Khmer language skills.
$5 sponsors a child to go to school for one month. Funds are required to reopen one school currently closed (approx $US3,800 per school per year including teacher salary, stationery, building maintenance and a toilet).
